Frequently asked questions about telehealth/virtual psychotherapy

  • Telehealth/virtual therapy is psychotherapy conducted using a secure, online video platform to hold sessions remotely. The client must be physically located in a state where the therapist is licensed during the video session. I am licensed in Connecticut and New York and offer telehealth/virtual therapy to clients throughout those states.

  • Telehealth or virtual therapy is often more accessible to clients than in-office sessions. Clients in therapy aren’t restricted by location except that they must be within the states where the therapist is licensed (for me, CT and NY). Transportation is not required, and many clients are able to fit video sessions in during their work days on a lunch break or other gap in their work schedule. For clients who work remotely from home, this is often a convenient modality provided that the client has a space that affords privacy from others residing in the home.

  • Online therapy is not the best choice for all clients. Some clients do not have a physical space to have video sessions privately because they live with roommates, partners, or children. Others may prefer to meet in a therapist’s office because they are better able to concentrate without the distractions of home or work intruding on the sessions.

If you are a client interested in starting therapy with me, please be aware that I have more availability and flexibility in scheduling for clients who are open to using telehealth to meet. At this time, I have limited availability at my office in New Haven. Please visit the Hours and Locations page on this site if you’re unsure whether you’ll be able to work with my schedule.
