Who is therapy for?
Some psychotherapy clients seek treatment for diagnosed mental health problems, where they can find relief and gain confidence in managing their symptoms. For others, the goals of therapy are different: maybe they’re hoping to gain insight and perspective reflecting on their own history; maybe they want to develop a greater sense of self-compassion or agency; or maybe they just don’t know exactly what they’re looking for from therapy, but they have a sense that it could help them feel better. Many clients come into therapy with specific goals in mind, but some don’t really know yet what they want or need from it. Even in these cases, the gifts of therapy can present themselves in a client’s life over time, and they may be hard to predict in the first session.
If you find yourself wondering if therapy could be for you, that sense of curiosity and the courage to reach out is really all you need to get started. I offer a free phone consultation to new clients to discuss the process and determine if I’m a good fit for you. If you would like to schedule a phone consultation, please use the contact form on this site or call me at (203) 305-9594.
